Theatre on the Playground: HAMLET - in a Hot Dog Stand — Den bemandede legeplads Elba i Filipsparken, Copenhagen
Free entry

A hot dog stand is not where you'd expect to encounter Shakespeare - but that's precisely the point. The grill is lit, and instead of sausages, you get Shakespeare's Hamlet: a bloody tale of family betrayal, crime and revenge, interpreted with the tools at hand in the van.

The production is a free adaptation with few lines of dialogue, but plenty of music, drama and - yes - hot dogs. It was created by Passepartout Theatre Production in collaboration with Dansk Rakkerpak, with Lene Hummelshøj and Vika Dahlberg on stage. Director is Matteo Destro, set designer Christian Q Clausen, composer Thomas Dinesen and graphic designer Daniel Seferian Spies.

The production premiered at Passage Festival in Helsingør in July 2026 and is now touring Denmark and internationally - on streets, squares and plazas where you'd normally find a hot dog stand, not a theatre. The project is supported by, among others, Nordjyllands Foundation, the Danish Arts Foundation's Music Legacy Committee, Copenhagen Municipality and Culture Moves Europe.
