HANNE RIMMEN - Chicken Knit
Knit designer Hanne Rimmen explores chicken knitting - the political knitting movement of the 1970s that gave women a new form of self-expression through yarn and patterns.
Hanne Rimmen is a Danish knitwear designer and author, best known for her work with hønsestrik - the colourful, feminist knitting movement that emerged in Denmark in the 1970s. She designs patterns rooted in Nordic tradition and works from the philosophy 'Knit a Story', the idea that knitting can carry a personal narrative. In October 2025 she published the book HØNSESTRIK with Gyldendal, a 376-page reinterpretation of the tradition featuring a pattern library, colour theory and contemporary designs. Alongside selling patterns through her own website, she teaches workshops and gives talks on knitting and colour.
Ugeavisen published in November 2025 an interview with Hanne Rimmen in connection with the release of HØNSESTRIK.
HØNSESTRIK was published on 7 October 2025 by Gyldendal as a 376-page hardcover book.
The book HØNSESTRIK received positive reviews from knitters, who highlighted the large pattern library and the thorough color theory.
Hanne Rimmen taught at the workshop 'Hønsestrik på slottet' during the Masker i Marsken festival in 2024.
