Heinali & Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko (UA)
Ukrainian duo Heinali and Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko reimagine Hildegard von Bingen's medieval music through modular synthesis and folk singing.
Heinali is the stage name of Ukrainian composer and sound artist Oleh Shpudeiko, born in Kyiv in 1985. Self-taught, he builds his practice around modular synthesis and the polyphonic traditions of the High Middle Ages, treating history as a living material rather than a museum archive. His credits include the award-winning score for the PlayStation game Bound (Sony Santa Monica), the 2020 album Madrigals - shortlisted for Ukraine's Shevchenko National Prize - and sound art commissions from MoMA New York. Together with singer Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko, he performs the project Гільдеґарда, which sets Hildegard von Bingen's compositions against Ukrainian folk vocal techniques and generative electronic polyphony.
Heinali & Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko perform at Roskilde Festival and present Гільдеґарда for the first time in Denmark.
The album Гільдеґарда (2025) ranks as number 12 on Pitchfork's list of the year's best electronic albums and number 13 on The Quietus' year-end roundup.
Heinali & Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko perform at Unsound New York at Lincoln Center together with John Cale.
The album Гільдеґарда is released on May 30, 2025, recorded at Abbaye de Sylvanès in France and mixed at GMEA in Albi.
Heinali & Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko perform the German premiere of Гільдеґарда at CTM Festival 2025 in Berlin.
