Kristian Himmelstrup (b. 1971) is a Danish author with an M.A. in Scandinavian literature from the University of Washington and a degree in Danish from the University of Copenhagen. He writes historical fiction and biographies centred on real-life figures, and is regarded as one of the writers who have shaped Danish 'exo-fiction'. He is known for a biography of poet J.P. Jacobsen, his debut novel "Dinosaurens sidste tango" and the novel "Pio" about labour-movement founder Louis Pio, and he also teaches creative writing at universities and folk high schools.
Himmelstrup published the novel "A Silver Cloud in the Air" about poet-physician Emil Aarestrup, the first volume in a planned trilogy about the period leading up to the Modern Breakthrough.
The book was reviewed in several Danish media outlets, including Weekendavisen and Information, with mixed to positive reactions.
In August 2024, the biography "Sweet Jan" about author Jan Sonnergaard was published, written by his long-time friend Himmelstrup.
The novel "Pio" was nominated for the DR Romanprisen for the 2023 season.
The novel "Pio" about Louis Pio was published in May 2022 and was called a "thrilling biographical novel" by Politiken, among others.
