Leila Bordreuil FR/US
French-American cellist Leila Bordreuil plays electro-acoustic cello at Alice.
Leila Bordreuil (b. 1990, New York) is a French-American cellist, composer, and sound artist based in Brooklyn. She pushes the cello into extreme territory through unorthodox amplification and extended techniques - no effects pedals - generating psychoacoustic spaces that draw on noise, free jazz, and contemporary classical without settling into any of them. The New York Times described her music as "steadily scathing music, favoring long and corrosive atonalities". She has performed at MoMA PS1, Lincoln Center, and Berlin Atonal, and collaborated with Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Kali Malone, and Laurel Halo, among others.
Bordreuil released the album 'Music for Intersecting Planes' together with organist Kali Malone via Ideologic Organ - recorded in natural light in a Swiss chapel.
Bordreuil is booked for a concert at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow in July 2026 as part of a European tour.
Bordreuil and guitarist Lee Ranaldo presented the new long-form piece 'Constellations' at Lampo in Chicago on November 8, 2025.
Bordreuil has been awarded a Camargo Foundation Fellowship for 2025 with a residency in Cassis, France.
The solo album '1991, Summer, Huntington Garage Fire' was released on September 11, 2024 on Hanson Records - a live improvised recording from a garden party where Bordreuil played modular synthesizer.
😴 Nothing scheduled with this artist in the near future.
