Science & Cocktails in X31: The Secrets Behind the World of Mushrooms
Fungal ecologist Lynne Boddy reveals how mushrooms form vast underground networks, wage chemical wars, and shape entire ecosystems. Orgelheimers opens with live music.
Lynne Boddy is Professor of Fungal Ecology at Cardiff University in Wales and one of the world's leading researchers into wood-decay fungi, having studied the subject since the mid-1970s. She has pioneered work on how fungal mycelium networks forage and fight for territory in the forest floor, and was awarded an MBE for services to mycology and public engagement. With Ali Ashby she co-wrote the book "Fungi: Discover the Science and Secrets Behind the World of Mushrooms".
Cardiff University received in August 2026 a grant from the British environmental ministry Defra of over 721,000 pounds for a conservation plan for 12 endangered fungal species, a project Boddy is involved with as a researcher.
In January 2024, her major book "Fungi: Discover the Science and Secrets Behind the World of Mushrooms" was published, written together with Ali Ashby.
In October 2024, the children's book "An Anthology of Fungi" was published, another collaboration with Ali Ashby.
