Wine & Science: Menopause and Science
Four leading Danish researchers present the latest findings on menopause, including results from a landmark nationwide study and new hormone therapy guidelines. Wine is served during the break.
Maria Hybholt is an associate professor and PhD researcher at the Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, where she leads the WHAM (Women's Health and Menopause) research group. She heads the interdisciplinary KiSO project (Women in Healthy Transition) and led what researchers describe as the largest menopause survey ever conducted - both in Denmark and globally - with 153,800 participants. The study found that 97 percent of women experience symptoms during menopause, and has significantly raised the profile of the issue in Danish health policy.
The KISO Survey results were published in October 2025 and showed that 97 percent of 153,800 participating women experience menopausal symptoms - the largest study of its kind in Denmark to date and according to researchers also globally.
The KISO Survey cohort study was published in the international journal European Journal of Epidemiology in August 2025.
Maria Hybholt participated in January 2025 in a conference at the Novo Nordisk Foundation on translational approaches to gender differences in research.
Two new KISO sub-projects received funding in 2025: KISO Working Life (funded by VELUX FONDEN, 2025-2027) and KISO Meeting with the Doctor (funded by Sagitta Charity Foundation, 2025-2026).
Maria Hybholt gives a lecture for FOF Copenhagen and North Zealand at Rungsted School on 22 September 2026.
