Marianne Hem Eriksen is a professor of the Viking Age at the National Museum of Denmark. Her research centres on material culture, gender and social practice in the Iron Age and Viking Age. She led a study using microscopic wear analysis on Swedish Viking-age figurines to challenge the long-held assumption that they functioned primarily as women's jewellery.
