About

Maruja are a Manchester four-piece who have been quietly building since 2014 to become one of the UK's most talked-about new bands. Harry Wilkinson (vocals, guitar), Joe Carroll (saxophone), Matt Buonaccorsi (bass) and Jacob Hayes (drums) forge a sound that cuts across post-punk, free jazz and noise rock - largely improvised and hard to pin down. Their EPs "Knocknarea" (2023) and "Connla's Well" (2024) earned them widespread attention, and their debut album "Pain to Power" followed in September 2025 on Music for Nations to critical acclaim.

    Maruja's debut album "Pain to Power" was released on September 12, 2025 via Music for Nations and reached no. 11 on the UK Vinyl Albums Chart and no. 13 on the UK Physical Albums Chart.

    On May 9, 2025, the band officially announced the debut album and released the lead single "Look Down on Us" as well as a world tour with stops in the USA and Europe.

    In October 2024, Maruja released the single "Break the Tension" - their first release under the new record deal with Music for Nations.

    On August 30, 2024, the band released "The Vault", a collection of six jam sessions recorded between 2021 and 2023, exclusively via YouTube and Bandcamp.

    The EP "Connla's Well" was released on April 26, 2024 and was praised by the music press - including being called "intense and compelling" by Paste Magazine.
