Mathias Hammer (born 1982 in Skanderborg) is a Danish pianist, music communicator and radio/TV host at DR. Trained as a classical pianist at the Jutland Music Conservatory's soloist class (graduating 2011), with studies at the Gnessin and Tchaikovsky conservatories in Moscow, he has been a fixture on DR's P2 since 2010 - hosting programmes such as Hammers Komponister and Sangbogen med Muff og Hammer, as well as presenting DR Symphony Orchestra's Thursday concerts. On television he is a team captain on Den Klassiske Musikquiz and co-host of Før Søndagen; his podcast series on Carl Nielsen, Beethoven and Niels W. Gade have been nominated for the Prix Europa and Prix Italia. He received the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize in 2010.
From January 2025, Før Søndagen will be broadcast on DR1 with Katrine Muff and Mathias Hammer - a more prominent slot than the previous DR2 broadcast.
