The Music Duel with Hammer & Cilius

Two prominent figures from DR's classical music world face off at Koncertsalen Alsion: Frederik Cilius and Mathias Hammer each compose a music corps programme, and the audience decides the winner. Best overture, best march, best soloist - everything is decided on stage.

Cilius (born 1986 in Sønderborg) is a clarinetist trained at Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium and Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington. He is known as host of the radio programme 'Hammer og Cilius' on P2, team captain in 'Den Klassiske Musikquiz' on DR2, and from the DR series 'Operarejsen'. Since 2015, he has worked with Rasmus Bruun on 'Den Korte Radioavis', where he plays senior correspondent Kirsten Birgit Schiøtz Kretz Hørsholm.

Hammer (born 1982) is a concert pianist trained at Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium in Aarhus (2011) and music educator at DR. He has presented DR Symfoniorkestret's Thursday Concerts on P2 since 2010, is a regular host of 'Mesterværker', and has created podcast series about Niels W. Gade, Carl Nielsen and Beethoven. He has also hosted Hindsgavl Festival, Copenhagen Opera Festival and Stjernestunder in Tivoli, and served on the committee for the latest edition of Højskolesangbogen.

The two meet weekly in 'Den Klassiske Musikquiz' on DR2, where tasks include recognizing music played backwards or from a single note.
