The Meaningful Life According to Philosophy
Holstebro Bibliotek, Holstebro · 0–50 kr. · ≈ 7 €
The Meaningful Life - Philosophy: Monday 19 October 2026, 18:30–20:30, Holstebro Bibliotek, Holstebro. Tickets cost 0–50 kr.
The question "What is the meaning of life?" doesn't occupy much space today - but "What is the meaning of my life?" does. Life meaning has become individualized, with both advantages and disadvantages.
Lecturer Cecilie Eriksen, Ph.D. and external lecturer at the Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas at Aarhus University, argues that we find the answer by understanding how we - in big and small ways - are called by something greater than ourselves. This points toward communities, art, science, and politics rather than self-cultivation alone. The lecture shows that it is in meeting these horizons that a meaningful life unfolds.
The lecture is part of Knowledge Festival 2026, where Holstebro Folk University focuses on meaning as an existential theme. The festival illuminates the topic from several fields - philosophy, literature, and theology - and also turns its gaze toward ancient concepts.
Ticket: 50 kr. Folk University's regular customers and students can collect free tickets via holstebrofolkeuniversitet.dk. The event is a collaboration between Holstebro Folk University and Holstebro Library.
