The Meaningful Life According to Literature

Literature and the meaning of life: Thursday 12 November 2026, 18:30–20:30, Holstebro Bibliotek, Holstebro. Tickets cost 0–50 kr.

Where do we find meaning in life, and what does it actually consist of? Is a good life something we shape ourselves, or is it determined by fate - or perhaps by divine powers? And does it make most sense to pursue individual happiness, or should we place the wellbeing of others higher?

Literature historian and author Anne Valbjørn draws on fiction as a source for answers to these existential questions. During the evening, she presents 5 classics chosen because they spark thoughts and feelings and leave powerful impressions across time - while also telling something about the era in which they were written.

The event is part of Knowledge Festival 2026, where Holstebro Folk University focuses on the meaningful life from multiple perspectives: philosophy, literature, theology, and ancient concepts on the subject.

Price: 50 kr. Folk University members and students can collect free tickets via holstebrofolkeuniversitet.dk. The event is a collaboration between Holstebro Folk University and Holstebro Library.
