The Independent Police Complaints Authority (DUP) - Trust, Legal Protection and Complaints Against Police
Codanhus, auditoriet, Frederiksberg
The Police History Association invites members, companions and other interested parties to an evening of presentations and debate about the Independent Police Complaints Authority (DUP) - focusing on trust, legal protection and complaints against police.
Complaints against police have been debated for decades among politicians, citizens, the press and police officers. Historically, the complaints system has undergone major changes: before 1973, the police investigated complaints themselves, and a series of subsequent reforms have since sought to strengthen trust between police and the public. Former investigation chief at DUP, Niels Raasted, and lawyer Martin Cumberland will give presentations and lead a debate on whether the current system meets today's requirements - including whether it ensures the right balance between police powers and citizens' protection against unreasonable interference with fundamental rights. Refreshments will be served.
