Rituals, Transformation and the Year's Magical Thresholds

Rituals and Transformation - workshop with Asta Wellejus: Saturday 24 October 2026, 13:00–15:30, Immigrantmuseet, Farum. Tickets cost 72 kr.

This workshop is led by Asta Wellejus, an anthropologist and contributor to the Immigrantmuseet's special exhibition "The Seeking Human", on display in the foyer of Farum Kulturhus until 31 October. Asta is completing her master's degree with a specialization in modern witchcraft practice and nature connections, and has spent the last four years studying Danish Nordic nature witches and the sensory and neurological aspects of contemporary witchcraft.

During the workshop, she explores what magical rituals are, how they are constructed, and why we perform them - both the magical transition rituals throughout the year and everyday rituals. Participants will learn to create their own rituals and mark the shift from everyday life to ritual space. The conversation will be shaped by what participants bring to it, and you are welcome to bring ritual objects: drums, rattles, singing bowls and similar items.

Asta's BA thesis in anthropology from the University of Copenhagen, "The Deep Breath", examines methods for deepening nature connection and belonging, and describes modern witchcraft practice as a path to connection with the seasons and other beings, including trees. The thesis can be provided in print at cost - email asta@dieasta.dk no later than two days before if you would like a copy on the day.

The museum's exhibition "The Seeking Human" can be viewed free of charge before the workshop. Coffee, tea and cake are included in the ticket price. The week before the workshop, a lecture on modern witchcraft practice and magic will also be held at the museum.
