I Am Someone Who Needs to Withdraw

Christian Hjortkjær lecture on youth withdrawal: Tuesday 27 October 2026, 19:00–20:30, Holstebro Bibliotek, Holstebro. Tickets cost 100 kr.

Why do young people drop out of schools, education programmes, internships and jobs - and why is it seen as a failure to need to withdraw? Perhaps it is because from kindergarten's "everyone must join in the game" we have pushed young people into large, exhausting communities. Perhaps it is actually the small, bounded communities that provide what every human being needs: trust, honesty, vulnerability, intimacy and true inclusivity.

The lecture is held by Christian Hjortkjær, author, lecturer, educational thinker and teacher at Silkeborg Folk High School. He has published books including "Ashamed", "Insufficient" and "I Am Someone Who Needs to Withdraw".

The event takes place at Holstebro Valgmenighedskirke and costs 100 kr. It is arranged in collaboration between Holstebro Valgmenighedskirke and Holstebro Bibliotek.
