Akademiet LIVE: Quantum Then and Now - Anniversary Edition
Carlsberg Akademi, Copenhagen · free entry, men tickets påkrævet
Akademiet LIVE: Quantum Then and Now: Wednesday 21 October 2026, 17:30–19:15, Carlsberg Akademi, Copenhagen. Admission is free.
On Wednesday, October 21 at 5:30 PM, Akademiet LIVE focuses on quantum physics - from Niels Bohr's groundbreaking atomic model in 1913 to today's global quantum race. Science journalist Lone Frank leads a conversation with professor Rebecca Adler-Nissen and professor Peter Lodahl about how we moved from 20th-century quantum theory to a technology that can transform medicine, cybersecurity, economics, and geopolitics.
This is the third anniversary edition in a series where Akademiet LIVE marks the Carlsberg Foundation's 150th anniversary throughout 2026 by highlighting research the foundation has supported. The event draws on the book "From Yeast to Galaxies. Danish Basic Research Supported by the Carlsberg Foundation - 150 Highlights in 150 Years", published by Strandberg Publishing in spring 2026. The book is available at the event price of 249.95 kr.
Rebecca Adler-Nissen is a professor of international politics at the Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen, and head of CAISA - The National Center for Artificial Intelligence in Society. Her research focuses on geopolitics, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology, including how new technology shifts power between states and global technology companies.
Peter Lodahl is a professor of quantum physics and quantum technology at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, and director of the basic research center Center for Hybrid Quantum Networks (Hy-Q). He works on controlling the interaction between light and matter at the quantum level and participates in the long-term development of a quantum internet.
