Mich Vraa on "I Am Not Cathrine": Tuesday 24 November 2026, 19:00–21:00, Silkeborg Bibliotek, Silkeborg. Tickets cost 90 kr.
Mich Vraa gives a lecture on the American author Ernest Hemingway. After the break, he discusses his latest novel 'I Am Not Cathrine' with literary communicator Anne Juul Andersen, which draws on Hemingway's life and work.
The novel tells the story of Hemingway's first love - the inspiration for Catherine Barkley, the female protagonist in 'A Farewell to Arms'. Her real name was Agnes von Kurowsky, and it is her story that Mich Vraa recounts in the book.
In 2024, Mich Vraa retranslated 'A Farewell to Arms', Hemingway's international breakthrough novel from 1929, which in many ways is based on real events. The relationship between Hemingway and Agnes was both erotic and romantic, but remained only a brief romance - they later found other partners, but left lifelong marks on each other. As Mich Vraa writes in the foreword to 'A Farewell to Arms', Agnes broke Hemingway's heart and possibly influenced his view of life and love for the rest of his life.
