Good Vibes Quartet Sunday Matinée: Sunday 11 April 2027, 15:00–17:00, Kulturstedet Lindegaarden, Kgs. Lyngby.

Sunday matinée with Good Vibes Quartet, where classical virtuosity and jazz groove come together. Tickets cost 150 kr. Friends and members of the jazz club pay 75 kr.

Jazz and classical music have long been kept strictly apart. Good Vibes draws the best from both worlds. Wieland Welzel (Berlin Philharmonic) and René Mathiesen (DR Symphony Orchestra) come from the top of the symphonic world and share the stage with jazz icons Thomas Clausen and Jon Bruland. All four are united by a passion for conveying the concept of "groove".

The concert sets jazz's improvisational, free approach to written material against the two classical musicians' powerful rhythmic weight and tonal richness. Behind them lies decades of interpreting masters such as Bach, Brahms, Mahler and Nielsen.

The quartet consists of:

Thomas Clausen, piano. Jazz pianist and composer in jazz and third stream/crossover. Professional since 1970, including work with Palle Mikkelborg, Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster. He played piano on the 1985 album "Aura" with music by Palle Mikkelborg, the trumpeter's tribute to Miles Davis.

Wieland Welzel, vibraphone. Principal timpani player with the Berlin Philharmonic. As a teenager he played saxophone and drums in swing and jazz bands. His love for the vibraphone grew through various marimba and vibraphone duos, for which he has also written arrangements.

Jon Bruland, bass. Started at age 15 in Debbie Cameron's band. Joined Kasper Winding's band in 1989 and later found his home in Alberte Winding's band, where he was a regular member for many years on 6-7 releases. Has also played and recorded with Bjørn Afzelius, Anne Linnet, Dr. Hook, Burnin' Red Ivanhoe, Blast and many others.

René Mathiesen, drums. Started at Tivoli Garden. During his conservatory years he played in, among others, DKDM Big Band and Tivoli's Big Band. Joined DR Symphony Orchestra in 1990 as principal timpani player. Alongside his classical career he has played drums in several bands, from big band to bebop and fusion.
