Benjamin Koppel presents "Håbets klang": Tuesday 24 November 2026, 18:30–19:30, BOGhandleren Aarhus Kristian F. Møller, Aarhus. Tickets cost 50 kr.

Benjamin Koppel discusses his new novel, 'The Sound of Hope', in conversation with literary critic and priest Michael Bach Henriksen. This author event takes place at BOGhandleren Aarhus Kristian F. Møller.

The novel begins in Poland at the end of the 19th century, where Bruche grows up in a small, poor Jewish shtetl. She sells vegetables, looks after her siblings, and finds refuge in her neighbour Gittel's books, in Jewish traditions, and in the nature surrounding the town. When Russian persecution makes life impossible, she flees and builds a new life in the Jewish community around Adelgade in Copenhagen. Then comes the war.

The next time period is Denmark in 1987. Bruche is celebrating her 100th birthday, even though she is actually only 98. Life has taught her not to postpone joy. She hopes for a visit from her daughter Hannah, but fears it too, for Bruche once did something unforgivable, and it may be too late to make amends.

'The Sound of Hope' is the third instalment in Benjamin Koppel's award-winning saga of the Koppelman family. Its predecessors are the bestsellers 'Anna's Song' (2022) and 'The Butterfly's Voice' (2024).
