Lecture on The Rolling Stones

Keith Richards once said: "There is the sun, there is the moon - and there is The Rolling Stones." Sixty years after their debut, the band returned with the album "Hackney Diamonds" in 2023, followed by "Foreign Tongues" on July 10th.

Poet Jan Thielke gives a lecture based on his book "The Rolling Stones - a poetic portrait of the world's greatest rock band", published earlier this year. He explores both new albums and the band's complete catalogue, drawing a personal picture of the group - from their rapid rise to sex and drug excess, internal conflicts, chaos and tragic deaths. Along the way, he examines how all this is reflected in Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' songs, and the significance of the band's muses Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg.

The book received 5 hearts in Politiken and was described in the library's reading guide as "sovereign" and "eminently contagious" - with the conclusion: "No better book about The Rolling Stones has ever been written in Danish."

Jan Thielke (born 1963) debuted as a poet with "Night After Night" in 1994 and has since published, among others, "The Spirit is Upon Us" (2005), "Fatherhood Poems" (2008) and the novel "Espegare" (2014). He has been a critic at Weekendavisen, editor of Samlerens Bogklub and received the State Arts Foundation's three-year grant in 2011. The lecture is aimed at Rolling Stones enthusiasts as well as rock fans in a broader sense.
