Ude for uden

In 2025, Niels Krause-Kjær took a significant step away from his previous work on politics and published the novel "Ude for uden" - a personal account of Denmark in transition. The starting point is a travel journal kept by his father and his father's folk-school friends over half a century, which Niels Krause-Kjær discovered in the Danish National Archives. The book has been honoured with the Golden Laurels award.

The novel depicts how rural culture was displaced over two generations in favour of the city, and what was lost in that process. The lecture alternates between personal memories, historical perspectives, and literary storytelling, raising the question of what the encounter with modernity has cost us.

Niels Krause-Kjær (born 1963) is a former journalist at Jyllands-Posten and host of DR2 Deadline. He has previously published "Kongekabale", "Mørkeland", "Fandens forår", "Nedsmeltning", and "Jagttegn", and works today as a full-time author.

The event takes place on Tuesday, 3 November 2026 at 19:00 in Kuplen, Otterup Library. Tickets cost 75 kr. and are purchased at nordfynsbib.dk - remaining tickets are sold at the entrance.
