Writing Workshop: Fantasy and Magical Realism

Screenwriter Trine Appel leads this two-hour workshop exploring fantasy and magical realism, examining what distinguishes the two genres. Drawing on her own work with the trilogy Ildfuglen, she discusses credibility, character development, and discovering what a story truly wants to say - even within a genre framework. Participants work through writing exercises on worldbuilding, concept, and character creation.

Trine Appel is a trained actor from the National Theatre School of Denmark and screenwriter from the Danish Film School. She has written 6 novels - 4 of which blend magical realism with Danish history - plus screenplays for Dag og nat season 2 (TV2), Min nye søster (DR), and the feature film C.4 - den sidste rejse.

The workshop is part of Copenhagen Public Libraries' monthly series of standalone writing events and takes place on the 4th floor of the Main Library. It is aimed at adults and held in person (LIVE). Entry is free but requires registration via Billetto.

Bring your own laptop and/or paper and pen - no computers are provided, and desk space is limited, so you may need to work with materials in your lap.
