Writing Workshop: Family History Writing — Hovedbiblioteket, Copenhagen
Free entry

Do you want to put words to a person or family from your genealogy? This workshop gives you concrete tools to work with family material - using both literary and creative writing approaches. The programme covers language, writing process, and structure, whether your text is intended for family or a broader readership.

The workshop is led by Marie Østergaard Knudsen (b. 1971), author and editor. She runs the businesses skrivditliv.nu and Forlaget Eftermiddag and has published "Tell Your Life: How to Write Your Memoirs" and "Write About Your Family: How to Tell Stories About Others and Be Read". In November 2026, her novel "You Must Not Write About Mother" will be published by Forlaget Alhambra.

The workshop is free but requires registration via Billetto. It takes place LIVE at Copenhagen Main Library, 4th floor, and is aimed at adults. Desk space is very limited, so you will likely need to work with a laptop or paper on your lap - bring your own laptop and/or paper and pen, as computers are not provided. A writing board for your notepad can be borrowed on site. There is a water station and coffee machine on the floor, but no other refreshments, so bring your own drinks.

From the main entrance on Krystalgade, reach the 4th floor via the elevator or stairs to the right in the Central Hall - alternatively, you can take the escalators to the 3rd floor and then take the stairs to the right up. The stage area is to the right when you arrive at the floor.

Copenhagen Libraries arranges writing workshops around the city every month. These are standalone two-hour events with presentations and writing exercises - not a continuous course. Themes and instructors change from session to session.
