First Aid for Babies & Small Children Supported by TrygFonden
Kildevæld Kulturcenter, Copenhagen · Free
This course is primarily aimed at children aged 0-3 years, but questions about older children and adults are welcome during the session. The instructor keeps the theory brief and uses her healthcare background to fill most of the time with practical training in small working groups using junior and baby resuscitation manikins. All participants receive a first aid handbook to take home as a memory aid.
The course covers the four main points of first aid: assessing consciousness and breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for babies and children (thoroughly practised), use of automated external defibrillators (AED), and recovery position and calling for help. There is also thorough training in foreign objects in the airway and a shorter overview of signs of serious infection, falls, burns, poisoning/caustic injuries, febrile seizures and bleeding.
The course is for (grand)parents before and after birth as well as other interested parties. Registration is per adult - a baby aged 0-12 months can be brought along free of charge. Prams can be brought into the Culture Hall, and the café opens at 11:00. Please bring a yoga mat or similar, water and snacks. The resuscitation manikins can provide electronic feedback on your CPR - please download the QCPR app from Laerdal in advance if you wish (not required).
The instructor is Marianne Mogensen, a first aid instructor certified by the Danish First Aid Council, an authorised physiotherapist, ergonomics teacher and movement instructor, and a former section leader in the Emergency Corps. She is the author of "After Birth - Training & Baby Play" and "Ergonomics - Moving and Working Techniques" and publisher of the DVD "Belly Dance for Pregnant Women". Questions about the content can be directed to her at info@denfriefys.dk.
After the course, children's librarian Birgitte will set up a pop-up library where you can borrow picture books to take home - provided you have downloaded the library app and are registered with the library.
Note: Tickets are not refunded unless the conditions of the event change.
