Exhibition: Simon Lindhardt

Simon Lindhardt's paintings bring together two techniques that don't normally belong together: minimalism's reduced formal language from the 20th century and the illusionistic devices of the trompe l'œil tradition, which painters have used since antiquity. Simple forms and overlapping shadows make the flat images appear three-dimensional - as if they stretch out into the space in front of them.

The result is small, often kaleidoscopic image spaces where forms and figures glide in and out of each other. The works are executed on bags, paper and canvas or as wall-mounted objects, and the exhibition here contains a broad selection from the period 2009-2022.

Lindhardt (born 1982) graduated from the Funen Academy of Fine Arts in 2008 and has exhibited in Europe and the USA. He lived in Berlin for over twelve years and has been based on Møn since 2019.
