Livestream Natural Science: Seaweed

Marine biologist Annette Bruhn, senior researcher in marine ecology at Aarhus University's Department of Ecoscience, gives a lecture on seaweed and algae - livestreamed from the Søauditorierne in Universitetsparken and shown on a large screen at Nørrebro Library.

The lecture explores what seaweed and algae actually are, how they differ from plants and animals, and how they are cultivated both at sea and on land. It examines seaweed's role in marine ecosystems: it serves as habitat and food source for fish and small animals, absorbs nutrients and CO2, produces oxygen, and counteracts ocean acidification. Humans have used seaweed for food, feed, fertilizer, gunpowder, and materials for thousands of years, and today seaweed is seen as a potential answer to the climate, food, and biodiversity crisis.
