Writing Workshop: Evil and Unsympathetic Characters - with Amalie Langballe — Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen
Free entry

This writing workshop focuses on the characters we dislike but cannot let go of - the Iagos, Heathcliffs, and Anna Kareninas. We discuss what makes an unsympathetic character convincing and try our hand at writing about evil.

A large part of the workshop explores how to write honestly about the unpleasant aspects of humanity - and thereby also about ourselves. How do you remove your own prejudices and attitudes from the equation?

You will gain concrete tools for convincing character development, meaningful details, artistic theft (working with reference works and borrowing from reality without ending up with a copy or a diary), and for bringing characters into play within a coherent narrative. The workshop alternates between presentations, discussions, and shorter writing exercises with time for feedback along the way.

Amalie Langballe is a journalist, literary critic, and author. She won the Politiken Literature Prize for her novel "elskende" and recently published the essay collection "Nye Dyder om Biblen".

Location: Toves Rum on the ground floor.
