Author Talk with Niels Krause-Kjær

Niels Krause-Kjær's novel "Ude for uden" follows Erik, who dreams of conquering the world - of getting a taste of the promised "ude for uden". He and his generation were too young to play a role in the resistance movement, but as farmers they must now save Denmark in the modern post-war era. The novel is also a story about how rural culture was gradually replaced by urban culture.

A librarian from Østerbro Bibliotek will talk with the author about how the idea for a generational novel about young farmers came about, what role his father's travel journal played as inspiration, and what generational narratives can teach us about issues that remain relevant today.

Niels Krause-Kjær (b. 1963) is an award-winning author and journalist. He achieved his major breakthrough with "Kongekabale", which was adapted into a film, and has since written a number of critically acclaimed novels. "Ude for uden" was published in 2025 and has won De Gyldne Laurbær and Læsernes Bogpris.
