Ying-Hsueh Chen presents Ancestral Modernism: EARTH & Tri(o)logy at Koncertkirken on Nørrebro, Friday 21 August 2026 at 19:00. The concert marks 20 years since the artist arrived in Denmark and blends stone sounds from Tony Di Napoli, Japanese Buddhist chanting from Junko Ueda, and contemporary music. Koncertkirken in Blågårds Plads is a converted 1928 church with a high vaulted hall whose distinctive acoustics suit classical music and experimental sound. Ying-Hsueh Chen performs two Danish dates in total - this concert and 2 October at Brønshøj Vandtårn. Admission 100 kr.

About the venue: Koncertkirken

KoncertKirken on Blågårds Plads in Nørrebro is Denmark's first concert church, housed in the former Blågårds Kirke. Since opening in October 2009 it has staged over 2,700 events, and the building was purchased from Kirkefondet in 2015. The programme runs from baroque and chamber music to jazz, world music, electronic music and performance art - around 200-250 concerts a year. The venue has been run as a cooperative since 2015.

Behind him are some 40 recordings and collaborations with dancers, filmmakers and composers including Vinko Globokar and Jürg Frey.

About: Ying-Hsueh Chen

Trained at Juilliard and the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Ying-Hsueh Chen works at the intersection of percussion, improvisation and site-specific composition. Her Sonic Architecture series has taken her to water towers, limestone mines and Cold War bunkers - spaces where the room's own echo becomes part of the music.
