Ying-Hsueh Chen (b. 1983) is a Taiwanese-Danish percussionist and composer based in Copenhagen since 2006. A graduate of the Juilliard School and the Royal Danish Academy of Music, she is known for her interpretations of Iannis Xenakis and for Sonic Architecture - a concert series that turns the acoustics of historic buildings into active participants in her improvised performances. She received the Danish Composers' Association Music Prize in 2018 and the Danish Music Critics' Artist Award in 2023.
The album 'Mirage: An Architectural Sonic Experience' was released on May 9, 2025 on ILK Music - a 15-track live album recorded at Thorvaldsens Museum, Brønshøj Water Tower and Grundtvigs Church.
Sonic Architecture 2025 concluded its autumn season with two concert walks at Cold War Museum Stevnsfort, 18-20 meters below the surface in the chalk cliffs at Stevns Klint, as part of Copenhagen Architecture Biennial.
Sonic Architecture 2025 collaborated with Copenhagen Architecture Biennial, including an opening concert at Thorvaldsens Museum and the world premiere of the film work 'Mirage' at Grand Teatret on September 28.
Sonic Architecture 2025 opened on May 15 with the world premiere of the site-specific work 'DUSK' for organ and percussion duo at Grundtvigs Church, written for the church's six-second reverberation.
In 2023, Ying-Hsueh Chen received the Music Critics' Artist Prize, and the solo album 'Dark Radiance' was released on Dacapo Records in October of that year.
