First Aid for Babies & Small Children
Kildevæld Cultural Centre, Thursday 27 August 2026, 10:00-13:00
Prevent most everyday accidents and be prepared for what happens anyway. The instructor draws on a healthcare background to deliver clear, concise theory followed by plenty of hands-on practice in small groups using specialist infant and baby CPR manikins. You learn with your body, not just your ears.
All participants receive a first aid handbook. The course focuses mainly on children aged 0-3, but you're welcome to ask about older children and adults throughout.
Course content covers the four main points of first aid: assessing consciousness and breathing, CPR for babies and children (practised thoroughly), using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and the recovery position. You'll also learn when and how to call for help, plus prevention and first aid for choking (practised thoroughly), recognising signs of serious infection, falls, burns, poisoning, febrile seizures, and bleeding.
The course is for parents (expectant and new), grandparents, and other interested carers. Registration is per adult. Baby-friendly environment - you may bring a baby aged 0-12 months free of charge. You don't need to bring your baby (you may concentrate better without), but babies are entirely welcome.
Practical information: Thursday 27 August 2026, 10:00-13:00 (3 hours including a short break). Teaching takes place in the ground-floor Culture Hall. Prams are welcome. Please bring a yoga mat, water, and snacks. The CPR manikins provide electronic feedback - consider downloading the QCPR app from Laerdal beforehand (not required).
