Bergithe Johannessen - Women's Lives, Courage and Art
Hovedbiblioteket, Aarhus · 50 kr. · ≈ 7 €
Bergithe Johannessen was a pioneer in Faroese art. In 1925, she became the first Faroese person ever admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' painting school in Copenhagen - yet her life story has long remained largely unknown.
Anya Mathilde Poulsen and Gunvor Bjerre have traced Bergithe Johannessen's path and gathered her history in a new book before it was lost. At this event, the two authors discuss her life, art, her era and the choices that shaped her destiny. A previously unseen selection of her watercolour paintings of Faroese nature will also be displayed.
Anya Mathilde Poulsen has previously written about female artists. Gunvor Bjerre is a journalist and has been behind a long series of DR children's programmes.
