Workshop in indigo dyeing with Japanese shibori techniques 🎌 💙 Sunday, August 30, 12:00-17:30

Dyeing fabric with indigo feels almost magical - a unique intense blue, also called "Japan blue". Instructor Ida Christoffersen recently returned from Japan, where she deepened her knowledge of shibori techniques on both the Izu Peninsula and in Kawasaki. While many know the English tie & dye technique, fewer have tried the Japanese shibori tradition, where folds, wraps, or sewn stitches create unique patterns where the dye cannot penetrate.

The workshop is taught by Ida Christoffersen, who through her upcycling universe YUME.ITO designs and teaches Japanese textile traditions. On her Instagram @YUME.ITO she shares designs, workshops, and her Japanese sauna events 🎎 The workshop is a collaboration between the North Zealand embroidery hub Edderbrodermig in Helsingør and YUME.ITO - a partnership born from our shared fascination with Japanese textile craftsmanship.

During the day you will:
• Learn to weigh, mix, and pH-test your own indigo vat ⚗️
• Be introduced to four different shibori techniques - sewn, wrapped, folded, and gathered around a rod 🌀
• Create at least four different dye applications on your own fabric/textiles 👘
• Take home your indigo vat to continue dyeing at home 🪣
• Receive YUME.ITO's booklet with indigo vat recipes and descriptions of the different techniques
• Have the opportunity to buy Japanese indigo and shibori tools 💙🌿
• Enjoy delicious Japanese tea and miso and milk chocolate cookies 🍵🍪

Bring the following:
• Two pieces of white cotton or linen fabric/cloth/tablecloth/scarf to dye. You can also bring 2-3 white t-shirts, shirts or similar in cotton/linen/silk 👕
• Tools: scissors, relatively strong thread or thin yarn and a matching needle, a pair of gloves
