Yasukazu Kano brings Japanese bamboo flutes to Koncertkirken on Blågårds Plads in Copenhagen on Sunday, 6 September 2026. The shinobue and shakuhachi meet in musical dialogue, with both instruments from Japan set in conversation with each other and Danish musical tradition. Koncertkirken in Nørrebro is Denmark's first concert church, housed in the former Blågårds Church. The programme also features guest performances with dance. Tickets cost 100-160 kroner. This is one of two Danish concert dates for the artist.

About the venue: Koncertkirken

KoncertKirken on Blågårds Plads in Nørrebro is Denmark's first concert church, housed in the former Blågårds Kirke. Since opening in October 2009 it has staged over 2,700 events, and the building was purchased from Kirkefondet in 2015. The programme runs from baroque and chamber music to jazz, world music, electronic music and performance art - around 200-250 concerts a year. The venue has been run as a cooperative since 2015.

Growing up in Copenhagen with Japanese-American roots, Kiku Day has spent decades bringing the jinashi shakuhachi - the oldest, untreated form of the bamboo flute - into a contemporary European context. As a co-founder of the European Shakuhachi Society and former chair of the 2018 World Shakuhachi Festival in London, she is a key figure in the global shakuhachi world.
