A Piece of Your Land - Choral Music, Communal Singing and Stories of the Danish Landscape
Nordglød Chamber Choir and Classic Car House invite you to a concert about agriculture, landscape and the relationship between humans and nature. Danish folk songs have long captured rural life and the rhythm of the seasons, shaping our image of Denmark - but how do these songs resonate today, as the landscape transforms?
The programme alternates between familiar folk songs and contemporary choral works. Vagn Holmboe and William Heinesen's "Høbjergning ved havet" places humanity against the vast landscape, while the harvest hymn "Du gav mig, o Herre, en lod af din jord" reflects gratitude for the land we borrow. The concert also features the world premiere of a newly composed arrangement of Jeppe Aakjær's "Stille hjerte, sol går ned", written for Nordglød by award-winning composer Gustav Ertbølle. The audience joins in on a selection of communal songs from the Højskolesangbogen songbook.
Historian and museum curator Peder Dam - chairman of the Agricultural History Society and leader of a research project on the Danish landscape from 1780 to 1914 - shares insights on the landscape's development and how historical maps and traditional land use can inform the green transition. Nordglød is conducted by Karen Ertbølle Madsen, a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
The event is supported by the Local Association Fund of the Enlightenment Societies, the Green Everyday initiative of the Danish Enlightenment Society, and the Cultural Strategy Fund of Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality. Note: ticket price at the door is 70 kr.
