Arve Henriksen is a Norwegian trumpeter and vocalist, born in 1968 in Stranda, Sunnmøre, and trained at the Trondheim Conservatory. His hushed, flute-like tone - shaped by his encounter with the Japanese shakuhachi - is instantly recognizable and has made him one of the most sought-after collaborators in European jazz and improvised music. A founding member of the Norwegian improv ensemble Supersilent, he has released a long series of albums on ECM Records since 1998, both as a leader and alongside musicians such as Trygve Seim, Jan Bang and Eivind Aarset.
Arve Henriksen released the quartet album Arcanum on ECM Records on May 2, 2025, recorded in Copenhagen with saxophonist Trygve Seim, bassist Anders Jormin and drummer Markku Ounaskari.
Henriksen performed at Bodø Jazz Open in Norway at the end of January 2025.
The duo album Touch of Time with Dutch pianist Harmen Fraanje was released on ECM Records on January 26, 2024.
Henriksen and Jan Bang received a commissioned work for the 42nd Skopje Jazz Festival in 2023.
