Jonas Eika (born 1991 in Aarhus) is a Danish writer who graduated from the Danish Academy of Creative Writing in 2015. Their short story collection *After the Sun* (2018) brought international recognition and the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2019 - making Eika the youngest ever recipient. The novel *Open Heavens* (Basilisk, 2024), a 712-page historical fiction set among the Beguine women's movement in 13th-century Liège, was critically acclaimed and acquired in seven territories, including Granta (UK) and Riverhead (US), with publication planned for 2027.
Jonas Eika received a two-year work grant from VELUX FONDEN's Writers in Residence program and is affiliated with the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen.
The novel *Open Sky* was published by Forlaget Basilisk and was nominated for the Critics Prize and Politiken's Literature Prize.
*Open Sky* has been sold to seven territories, including Granta in the United Kingdom and Riverhead in the USA with planned publication in 2027.
A short story from *After the Sun* won the O. Henry Prize for Short Fiction.
The English translation *After the Sun* was longlisted for the International Booker Prize 2022 and has been translated into fifteen languages.
