
Theatre on the Playground: HAMLET - in a Hot Dog Stand
Shakespeare's Hamlet gets an unconventional staging inside a hot dog stand on a playground, where drama, music and absurdity collide in a free adaptation of the classic.
Lene Hummelshøj is a Danish actress who trained at the Acting School at Aarhus Theatre, graduating in 2006. She has worked across a wide range of stages - including Aarhus Theatre, Marionetteatret in Copenhagen and Khayal Theatre in Beirut - and is particularly known for her puppetry work. Alongside her stage career she has appeared in TV series and radio drama, and holds a central role at HamletScenen at Kronborg Castle.
Lene Hummelshøj is listed as puppet master in HamletScenen's Hamlet production, which tours in Denmark from September 2026 and further into 2027.
Lene Hummelshøj participated as puppet master in the opera Blue at Den Fynske Opera, where she operated the puppet Lou in a newly composed opera based on Maja Lunde's novel.
Lene Hummelshøj participated in and directed HamletScenen's Christmas and puppet theatre performance Epiphany, which she also helped write the script for.
The performance Lene and Lillebror, with Lene Hummelshøj in the title role, played at Teater Vestvolden in Hvidovre and subsequently went on a nationwide tour.
