About

Medusa Quartet is a Toronto-based chamber-folk string quartet made up of Georgia Hathaway, Lea Kirstein, Marta Sołek and Saskia Tomkins. The group reimagines the classical string quartet by pairing violin, viola and cello with rare, revived folk instruments such as the Polish suka and the Swedish nyckelharpa. Their repertoire fuses Middle Eastern, Scandinavian, Celtic, Appalachian and Eastern European traditions with original compositions, and their 2023 debut EP earned a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Instrumental Group of the Year.
