2 x Koppel

Anders Koppel celebrates his 80th birthday with a new saxophone concerto written for his son Benjamin Koppel, featuring concert master Niklas Walentin on violin. The father-and-son collaboration spans many years and moves between classical music and jazz.

Andres Koppel was a co-founder of Savage Rose, where his organ playing became a defining feature, and later a prominent figure on the Danish world music scene as a member of Bazaar. Benjamin Koppel is known as a saxophonist and contributed to the musical form of Anna's Song in the Book Concert: Anna's Song in summer 2025.

After the interval, Dvořák's 9th Symphony follows, written during his stay in the USA with inspiration from American folk music and spirituals. The work premiered in 1893 at Carnegie Hall.
