Pierre Dørge (born 28 February 1946 in Copenhagen) is a Danish avant-garde jazz guitarist, composer and bandleader. He founded the New Jungle Orchestra in 1980 - named after Duke Ellington's early 'jungle sound' - and has led it ever since as its principal composer and arranger. The music weaves jazz together with West African, Asian and Balkan influences, moving freely between tightly arranged passages and open improvisation. The orchestra has given over 2,500 concerts in more than 60 countries, performing for audiences ranging from Nelson Mandela to the Japanese Emperor.
