Soen
Icelandic indie rock band Soen performs at VoxHall in Aarhus.
Soen are a Swedish progressive metal band from Stockholm, founded by drummer Martin Lopez - formerly of Opeth and Amon Amarth - and vocalist Joel Ekelöf. Debuting with Cognitive in 2012, they have since released seven studio albums, gradually shifting from dense prog-metal arrangements toward a tighter, more melodic alternative metal sound. Their lyrics tackle themes of human fragility, social critique and existential struggle, underpinned by Lopez's groove-heavy drumming.
Soen released their seventh studio album Reliance on January 16, 2026 via Silver Lining Music, produced by Alexander Backlund.
The band co-headlined the Scandinavian Heavy Arts Tour with Dark Tranquillity in North America in March and April 2026.
Soen is on the Reliance Europe Tour in November and December 2026 with Tribulation and Vulkan as support - the route includes London, Paris, Leipzig, Hamburg and Lisbon.
Four singles from Reliance were released ahead of the album: 'Primal' (September 2025), 'Mercenary' (November 2025), 'Discordia' (December 2025) and 'Indifferent' (January 2026).
Reviewers noted that Reliance continues the band's movement toward a more metal-oriented and less prog-heavy sound compared to the early albums.
