ARKEN Museum for Samtidskunst opened in 1996 on the shore of Køge Bugt, south of Copenhagen. The building, designed by Søren Robert Lund, resembles a ship run aground on the beach - a striking piece of architecture in its own right. The museum presents Danish and international contemporary art from the 1990s to the present, alongside major temporary exhibitions.
