Kalundborg Folkeuniversitet: Understanding the World Through History

Kalundborg Folkeuniversitet uses history as a tool to understand the present, bringing together three lecturers for a full-day event on China, empires, and Europe's long arc from antiquity to today.

The day begins at 10:00 with coffee, tea, and croissants, with the first lecture starting at 10:30. When purchasing your ticket, you choose between two tracks: cand.mag. in the history of ideas Christian Friis takes you through approximately 5,000 years of Chinese history - from imperial times and the republic through Mao's communist revolution to economic reforms and China's current position as a superpower (Type A). Alternatively, postdoc., ph.d. Jesper Lundsby Skov gives a lecture on the rise and fall of the British and American empires, and what it means for a small nation like Denmark in a world order where power is law (Type B).

At 12:30 there is a lunch break, and at 13:30 everyone gathers for a joint lecture: cand.mag. in history Asser Amdisen reviews 3,000 years of European history from ancient empires to today's crises and questions about the future. Coffee, tea, and cake are served throughout, and the event ends at 15:30.

The ticket costs 375 kr. - or 350 kr. for members of the Library Club - and covers all lectures plus croissants, lunch, and coffee/tea/cake. Other beverages are purchased separately.
