Bach and Friends - 12 Preludes with Kasper Staub and Soffie Viemose · Vor Frue Kirke, Aarhus

Bach and Friends - 12 Preludes: Sunday 15 November 2026, 15:00–16:00, Vor Frue Kirke, Aarhus. Tickets cost 50–100 kr.

Aarhus Bach Society presents the concert series "Bach and Friends", where contemporary musicians meet Bach in new interpretations. The first concert brings musicians and songwriters Kasper Staub and Soffie Viemose to Vor Frue Kirke, where they perform 12 improvised preludes in various major and minor keys - inspired by the format of Bach's Das Wohltemperierte Klavier.

Staub and Viemose are both members of the internationally acclaimed indie pop band Lowly, which has toured the world and released three critically acclaimed albums. For years they have worked with free improvisation, a practice that was widespread in Bach's time but has since lost ground in both classical and pop music. They are currently researching the method through teaching positions at Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium and Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen.

Kasper Staub has also released two solo piano albums and trio albums, and has written music for, among others, symphony orchestra and choir. Simon Raymonde from Cocteau Twins writes about his piano music: "It was no surprise to fall in love with Kasper's compositions on piano. The music is romantic, melancholic and soothing. Regular motifs appear when you are least expecting them. It was likely I would find his solo work enchanting, and that is how it came to pass."
