Small talk has a poor reputation. Many see it as superficial chatter without real substance, and the thought of having to converse with strangers at a party is enough to make some decline the invitation. But what if small talk is actually indispensable?

Birte Asmuss, lecturer in organizational communication at the Department of Business Administration at Aarhus University, draws on her Tænkepause lecture on small talk to explain what it is, why it has such a bad reputation - and why it ultimately makes us happy.
