Johanne Mygind

An author talk featuring Johanne Mygind, part of the OrdFraNord literature festival. The conversation centres on her latest novel "Giftig" (Toxic).

The novel draws on Mygind's own family history with Cheminova, the chemical company behind what is considered Denmark's largest environmental disaster. The protagonist is radio documentarian Nanna, who travels to western Jutland to investigate her grandfather's role as operations director at the factory. Along the way, she discovers something unexpected: an author she once had a relationship with has used her life as material in his own book. The novel poses two questions that run through the entire narrative - who owns the right to their own story, and what does it cost to write the truth about those you love?

Mygind made her debut in 2021 with "Kærlighedens år" (The Year of Love), which received critical acclaim. She has worked as a journalist for Weekendavisen, Information, and Danmarks Radio. Line Kveiborg will host the conversation.

OrdFraNord is an annual festival that brings together Nordic authors each autumn on stages on both sides of the Danish-German border. In 2026, participants include the Icelandic author couple Jón Kalman Stefánsson and Sigríður Hagalín Björnsdóttir, among others. The festival is organized by Dansk Centralbibliotek for Sydslesvig, Haderslev Bibliotekerne, Biblioteket Sønderborg, Verband Deutscher Büchereien Nordschleswig, and Foreningen Norden, with support from Rislum Fonden.
