Coffee is one of the world's most widespread beverages - but behind the cup lies a complex plant and a global value chain with major consequences for the environment and health. Three researchers offer their own insights: the biology and cultivation of the coffee plant, processing from field to cup, sustainable production and the significance of climate change for the future of coffee - as well as the latest research findings on coffee and nutrition.

The speakers are Aske Skovmand Bosselmann, lecturer in agricultural value chains at the University of Copenhagen, Anders Sanchez Barfod, associate professor emeritus in botany at Aarhus University, and Kjeld Hermansen, physician and associate professor emeritus in diabetes and nutrition at Aarhus University.

The lecture is free but requires advance registration. Doors open at 18:30.

About the venue: Kildevæld Kulturcenter

Kildevæld Kulturcenter is a community cultural centre in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, built as an extension to the listed Kildevældsskolen and set between the school and a neighbouring park. The building holds a library, a theatre and concert hall, creative workshops, a café, and a digital workshop equipped with laser cutters and 3D printers. Its programme targets residents of all ages in the Skt. Kjelds Kvarter neighbourhood, with a focus on the meeting point between urban nature and culture.

About: Aske Skovmand Bosselmann

Based at the University of Copenhagen's IFRO, Aske Skovmand Bosselmann has spent decades doing fieldwork with smallholder farmers across Africa and Asia, mapping how climate change and EU regulation reshape the coffee and cocoa sectors. He advises Danish authorities and collaborates with international research institutions worldwide.
