Fabio Luisi, born in Genoa on 17 January 1959, simultaneously holds the posts of music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, principal conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and chief conductor of Tokyo's NHK Symphony Orchestra. His earlier tenures included the Vienna Symphony, Staatskapelle Dresden, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. His complete Nielsen symphony cycle with the Danish National Symphony, released on Deutsche Grammophon, won Gramophone's 2023 Recording of the Year, and his Dallas Symphony Wagner Ring recording received the Premio Abbiati Special Prize in 2026.
Luisi's complete Wagner Ring recording with Dallas Symphony Orchestra on the Delos label won the Premio Abbiatini special prize at the Italian prize ceremony in 2026.
Dallas Symphony Orchestra's complete Ring recording was released on May 22, 2026 on Delos with a two-week exclusive streaming period on Apple Music Classical from May 8.
In the 2026-27 season, Luisi begins his seventh season as music director in Dallas, his tenth as chief conductor of DR SymfoniOrkestret and his fifth as chief conductor of NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.
In DR SymfoniOrkestret's anniversary season, Luisi and the orchestra record Schoenberg and Scriabin for Deutsche Grammophon and mark the orchestra's 100-year anniversary with symphonies by Mahler, Beethoven and Brahms.
Luisi's complete Nielsen symphony cycle with DR SymfoniOrkestret for Deutsche Grammophon won the Limelight and Abbiati prizes for best orchestra recording in 2023, and the fourth and fifth symphonies were named Gramophone's recording of the year.
